Kokopelli

We (my mother?) has been a little obsessed with Kokopelli lately. Fortunately, he shows up everywhere, including nearly every street corner in Moab. Kokopelli (the deity of fertility) is the cool guy with the spiky hair and a flute. We're trying to help my mom find a cheap souvenier with him on it, but cheap souveniers are hard to come by. In any case, he shows up in a lot of our pictures and we have fun pointing him out in every store we go into -- on magnets, jewelry, pillows, in metal, shirts, blankets, etc.

  1. I just think he's fun sort of mascot. A whimsical trickster. The ranger said he helped the natives through the long winters, and that seems like a necessary thing too. And I did find him on a pin that I bought for my hat. :)

  2. Vince wants to know why Mary Ann would have an obsession with the deity of fertility...what's might be the significance? Perhaps it's the flute...

  3. I wish I had known about Mary Ann's obsession. I donated a computer-top Kokopelli to the children's games at the Fiesta...Sure hope whoever won it doesn't know about the fertility god aspect!--Mary Lou

  5. I always thought he looked Australian- you, know, aboriginal. The flute makes me think of a didgeridoo.
